which were issued by a Red Cross social worker, were good until

nine p.m. Evacuees released to friends, or provided for by

representatives of their husbands' business firms were issued two

release cards, one to be presented to the baggage officer when

taking their heavy baggage and one for the guard at the gate.

The Army furnished trucks for transportation of evacuees and their

baggage for all group transfers. The Red Cross provided for the

transportation of individual releases.

It is impossible to stress too strongly the splendid coopera-

tion with the Red Cross shown by all officers, enlisted men, and

their families. Every kindness and courtesy was extended to the

evacuees. They were officially called Hong Kong visitors and

treated as such. They were allowed the use of the Post Library,

Y.M.C.A., Post Exchange, and Post Cinema. A band concert was

given every afternoon for their entertainment and the night be-

fore the last group sailed a dance was given in their honor.
